L.B.C. DOCTRINAL  STATEMENT

Lisbon Bible Church is committed to honor our Lord Jesus Christ,  and to bear a united witness to the faith of its members to make known the Gospel to men,  women, and children both near and far.

We believe the Bible,  consisting of 66 books of the Old and New testaments being the Word of God, was divinely inspired and written by men under the influence of the Holy Spirit,  (the third Person of the Holy Trinity).  We believe that it is the final authority in all matters of faith and conduct.

We believe in the Trinity of the Godhead,  one God eternally existing in three equal Persons and revealing Himself to us in three distinct entities:  Father,  Son, and Holy Spirit.

We believe Jesus Christ to be the eternal and only begotten Son of God,  conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary.  He is true God and true Man,  and the only mediator between man and God.

We believe that the Holy Spirit convicts of sin, quickens repentant sinners,  and baptizes them into the body of Christ; seals,  endues,  indwells, guides,  teaches,  witnesses to,  sanctifies, and helps believers.

We believe that man was created in the image and likeness of God,  but that in Adam’s sin the race fell,  inherited a sinful nature and became alienated from God; and that man is totally depraved,  and of himself is utterly unable to remedy his lost condition.

We believe that the Lord Jesus died for our sins according to the Scriptures as representative and substitutionary sacrifice and that all who believe in Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood.

We believe that salvation is by grace through faith, not by works,  and that all who receive by faith the Lord Jesus as Lord and Savior are born again of the Holy Spirit,  becoming children of God.

We believe in the eternal security of the believer.

We believe in the resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord Jesus Christ,  in His ascension into heaven,  and in His present ministry there for us as High Priest and Advocate.

We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just to an everlasting conscious state of blessedness and the bodily resurrection of the unjust to an everlasting state of punishment.

We believe in the one true Church,  the Body of Christ, composed of all who have been born again through faith in Jesus Christ and only such.  As members of the one Body all members are united by the Holy Spirit to one another and all in Christ who is the Head of the Body,  the Church.

We believe in the personal,  imminent,  pretribulational and premillenial return of the Lord Jesus Christ.  First to catch up unto Himself the Church, then to return to earth with His resurrected Saints (born again believers) to establish His Millennial Kingdom.

We do not participate or support the modern Ecumenical movement with such advocates as the National and World Council of Churches;  nor the Charismatic movement.
